Washroom refurb at zoo enhances visitor experience
Overview
The team at Focus Washrooms were approached to renovate Banham Zoo’s main washrooms, situated centrally in the Parkside Pizza restaurant and shop complex. The aim was to provide new washrooms to improve the visitor experience.

The project consisted of completely renovating male and female washrooms, a baby changing room and a disabled toilet. The entrance foyer to the area and internal doors were repainted.
The works were meticulously planned to have most of the refurbishment work completed during a ‘maintenance’ shut down of the zoo. The final touches took place when the zoo had reopened to the public. To achieve this tight deadline for finishing the project, night works took place.

Trovex Universal cubicles were installed along with split height vanity units to suit all ages. Both male and female rooms had one ambulant cubicle in line with regulations. We redesigned the layout of the disabled toilet to increase the circulation space for users.

The zoo originally considered having a mural on the wall made from Trovex Gallery which is hygienic wall cladding printed with an image. However, due to timescales, printing on the cubicles was suggested by the client and we have the manufacturing capabilities to do this, so it was the perfect solution. A feature of the cubicle doors was that the laminate is printed on both sides which makes sure the door looks great from inside and out, especially since the doors open outwards to maximise space in the cubicles.
The stunning wildlife images that were printed onto the cubicle doors were taken by ZSEA’s Ambassador Alfie Bowen.
